Cold and Missing

How could a 12 year old girl get on a public bus after school and never been seen from again? This is exactly what happened with 12 year old Elyssa Vasquez in Clarkston, GA. In January of 2003 Elyssa was starting at a new school and was really excited about it. Her dad and brother were waiting for her at the bus stop near their home after school to hear about her first day. The bus came and went but Elyssa never got off. Police classify her as a runaway and her case goes cold quickly. The community of Clarkston, known for its diversity, did not seem to rally to find the missing girl. Elyssa's family continues to search for her, and her case was reclassified as an endangered missing child after 20 years. The family pleads for any information on her whereabouts.

And I'm your co-host, Eli Sulkowski.

7
00:00:29,680 --> 00:00:32,580
And this is Cold and Missing, where we cover cold cases.

8
00:00:32,580 --> 00:00:34,440
And missing person cases.

9
00:00:34,440 --> 00:00:36,840
Hello everyone and welcome back to Cold and Missing.

10
00:00:36,840 --> 00:00:38,080
I'm Ali.

11
00:00:38,080 --> 00:00:39,480
And I'm Eli.

12
00:00:39,480 --> 00:00:42,640
We are on episode 85.

13
00:00:42,640 --> 00:00:44,160
Episode 85 this week.

14
00:00:44,160 --> 00:00:48,480
I believe this is a missing person case, right?

15
00:00:48,480 --> 00:00:50,560
Yes, it is.

16
00:00:50,560 --> 00:00:55,900
And I just want to kind of mention this at the beginning that this may be kind of a shorter

17
00:00:55,900 --> 00:01:02,040
podcast as there wasn't as much information about this case as I normally like to bring

18
00:01:02,040 --> 00:01:03,040
to the podcast.

19
00:01:03,040 --> 00:01:07,840
But it felt really important that we talk about this case and kind of get into it.

20
00:01:07,840 --> 00:01:09,440
All right.

21
00:01:09,440 --> 00:01:13,760
I think on that note, we should just jump right in.

22
00:01:13,760 --> 00:01:14,760
Let's do it.

23
00:01:14,760 --> 00:01:19,560
Today, we are covering the missing person case of Elyssa Vasquez.

24
00:01:19,560 --> 00:01:24,920
And this takes place in January of 2003 in Clarkston, Georgia.

25
00:01:24,920 --> 00:01:27,840
But first, a little bit about Elyssa.

26
00:01:27,840 --> 00:01:31,640
Elyssa, she also went by Lisa and Lili.

27
00:01:31,640 --> 00:01:34,040
She's 12 years old in 2003.

28
00:01:34,040 --> 00:01:36,120
She would be 34 years old today.

29
00:01:36,120 --> 00:01:41,280
Elyssa's mother, Sharon, shared that her daughter had been diagnosed with ADHD.

30
00:01:41,280 --> 00:01:45,720
Elyssa had had troubles at her last school who were not equipped to handle her learning

31
00:01:45,720 --> 00:01:46,720
differences.

32
00:01:46,720 --> 00:01:51,880
But Sharon was cautiously optimistic that a new school that Elyssa was enrolled in,

33
00:01:51,880 --> 00:01:56,440
Clarkston, Georgia, would be able to understand what she needed and create academic goals

34
00:01:56,440 --> 00:02:00,520
for her, something that she was working at home on too.

35
00:02:00,520 --> 00:02:02,880
Elyssa was a ham from a young age.

36
00:02:02,880 --> 00:02:07,200
Her mother, Sharon, says, quote, she loved making people laugh and was very goofy and

37
00:02:07,200 --> 00:02:08,200
fun.

38
00:02:08,200 --> 00:02:11,840
She loved to dance and learn about music, end quote.

39
00:02:11,840 --> 00:02:16,200
Even though it was still a little more than a month away, Elyssa was planning her 13th

40
00:02:16,200 --> 00:02:17,740
birthday party.

41
00:02:17,740 --> 00:02:19,800
She wanted to have a dance party.

42
00:02:19,800 --> 00:02:24,120
Elyssa was an energetic young woman with a big, wide grin.

43
00:02:24,120 --> 00:02:31,000
In 2003, she was 5'1", 117 pounds with dark hair and hazel eyes.

44
00:02:31,000 --> 00:02:33,480
And now a timeline of events.

45
00:02:33,480 --> 00:02:40,240
On Thursday, January 29, 2003, this is Elyssa’s first day at her new school.

46
00:02:40,240 --> 00:02:44,600
Not only was she nervous about starting a new school year, but she also needed to navigate

47
00:02:44,600 --> 00:02:48,400
her way to her new school using the public transit system.

48
00:02:48,400 --> 00:02:52,600
Sharon, at this time, was on bed rest and Elyssa’s father was unable to drive her

49
00:02:52,600 --> 00:02:54,160
to school that morning.

50
00:02:54,160 --> 00:02:58,400
Her mother, Sharon, says, quote, at first I was worried and scared because I had to

51
00:02:58,400 --> 00:03:00,000
send her on a bus.

52
00:03:00,000 --> 00:03:04,800
Not a school bus, it was a public MARTA bus, end quote.

53
00:03:04,800 --> 00:03:09,480
And the MARTA bus system is the Atlantic public transit system.

54
00:03:09,480 --> 00:03:11,360
So Elyssa headed off to school.

55
00:03:11,360 --> 00:03:15,720
The MARTA bus stop was not too far from her home and it would drop her off right in front

56
00:03:15,720 --> 00:03:16,800
of her school.

57
00:03:16,800 --> 00:03:21,600
She was wearing a blue ski jacket with a white stripe down the center, blue jeans, and white

58
00:03:21,600 --> 00:03:22,720
sneakers.

59
00:03:22,720 --> 00:03:27,360
Throughout the morning, Sharon had a bad feeling and kept finding her mind wandering back to

60
00:03:27,360 --> 00:03:28,600
Elyssa.

61
00:03:28,600 --> 00:03:32,840
But when Elyssa called her mom at lunch, Sharon started to relax.

62
00:03:32,840 --> 00:03:38,560
Sharon says, quote, she called me during lunch to tell me how happy she was at her new school.

63
00:03:38,560 --> 00:03:39,560
Everything was fine.

64
00:03:39,560 --> 00:03:40,860
She was excited.

65
00:03:40,860 --> 00:03:45,440
She even asked me if I could style her hair like the other girls when she returned home,

66
00:03:45,440 --> 00:03:46,520
end quote.

67
00:03:46,520 --> 00:03:49,420
She wanted her hair braided like Alicia Keys.

68
00:03:49,420 --> 00:03:54,480
At the end of the school day, according to investigators, a security guard from the school

69
00:03:54,480 --> 00:03:58,920
confirmed that Elyssa and other students got on the MARTA bus that afternoon.

70
00:03:58,920 --> 00:04:03,580
Elyssa's father and brother went to meet her at the bus stop to walk her home and hear

71
00:04:03,580 --> 00:04:05,400
about her first day.

72
00:04:05,400 --> 00:04:09,120
However, Elyssa never got off of the bus.

73
00:04:09,120 --> 00:04:14,120
And no one riding the bus could remember Elyssa getting off the bus at any point.

74
00:04:14,120 --> 00:04:16,720
It's as if she vanished into thin air.

75
00:04:16,720 --> 00:04:22,520
Elyssa’s family called the police, who almost immediately classify her as a runaway.

76
00:04:22,520 --> 00:04:27,440
It's hard for me to say what was and wasn't done in regards to Elyssa’s disappearance.

77
00:04:27,440 --> 00:04:32,080
I could not locate any newspaper articles or local news reports mentioning her at the

78
00:04:32,080 --> 00:04:33,360
time.

79
00:04:33,360 --> 00:04:38,440
It's unclear if police ever launched an official search for her or if it was just her family

80
00:04:38,440 --> 00:04:40,360
trying to do it on their own.

81
00:04:40,360 --> 00:04:44,840
Based off of everything, I do think it really was just her family looking for her.

82
00:04:44,840 --> 00:04:49,460
It's easy for me to think about this young woman of color in the South and that her case

83
00:04:49,460 --> 00:04:52,000
would be ignored by police.

84
00:04:52,000 --> 00:04:55,280
And I'm not saying that isn't playing a role here.

85
00:04:55,280 --> 00:05:00,440
But I wanted to talk about how unique of a community Clarkston, Georgia is.

86
00:05:00,440 --> 00:05:05,240
Clarkston, Georgia boasts that they are the Ellis Island of the South.

87
00:05:05,240 --> 00:05:11,640
Starting in the 1990s, Clarkston was identified as an ideal place to resettle newcomers.

88
00:05:11,640 --> 00:05:16,060
It was close enough to Atlanta to still use the public transportation system, but far

89
00:05:16,060 --> 00:05:19,480
enough away that rental prices were reasonable.

90
00:05:19,480 --> 00:05:24,240
According to the town's website, today, half of the city's residents are foreign-born

91
00:05:24,240 --> 00:05:27,360
with over 60 countries represented.

92
00:05:27,360 --> 00:05:32,500
So while Elyssa and her family were new to the school system, it seems as if the city

93
00:05:32,500 --> 00:05:36,520
was set up to help out and accommodate folks that are new.

94
00:05:36,520 --> 00:05:41,840
However, looking through the Clarkston, Georgia police Facebook, none of the comments have

95
00:05:41,840 --> 00:05:43,400
anything nice to say.

96
00:05:43,400 --> 00:05:47,880
And I know that it's Facebook and that it's social media and anyone can post anything.

97
00:05:47,880 --> 00:05:52,180
But they also have never posted about Elyssa’s case either on their Facebook, which is something

98
00:05:52,180 --> 00:05:55,920
that we do see quite often with police departments.

99
00:05:55,920 --> 00:05:58,160
Kind of getting back to the timeline now.

100
00:05:58,160 --> 00:06:02,920
Elyssa’s story will drop from the media altogether and her case will go cold.

101
00:06:02,920 --> 00:06:07,320
The only updates I could find come from her family on Facebook asking for others to come

102
00:06:07,320 --> 00:06:11,920
forward if they know anything and to continuously pray for her.

103
00:06:11,920 --> 00:06:14,360
That is until 2023.

104
00:06:14,360 --> 00:06:19,960
In 2023, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children released an age-progressed

105
00:06:19,960 --> 00:06:24,600
photo and did an interview with Elyssa’s mother, Sharon, which is where a lot of the

106
00:06:24,600 --> 00:06:27,120
details about her case come from.

107
00:06:27,120 --> 00:06:31,960
Elyssa’s family has never given up hope that one day they will be reunited with her

108
00:06:31,960 --> 00:06:36,280
and they have vowed to not stop searching until they find answers as to what happened

109
00:06:36,280 --> 00:06:38,240
to their beloved.

110
00:06:38,240 --> 00:06:44,920
The family begs, quote, if anyone knows anything, no matter how small, please call.

111
00:06:44,920 --> 00:06:48,480
Living with no answers is the worst thing to live with.

112
00:06:48,480 --> 00:06:53,540
Our family is big on love and we just love and miss her, end quote.

113
00:06:53,540 --> 00:07:00,000
Her case is no longer classified as a runaway, but rather an endangered missing child, which

114
00:07:00,000 --> 00:07:03,920
is what it should have been all along in my opinion.

115
00:07:03,920 --> 00:07:09,020
So with that, if you know anything about the disappearance of Elyssa Vasquez in January

116
00:07:09,020 --> 00:07:19,680
of 2003 or her whereabouts today, please call the DeKalb County Police at 404-294-2519.

117
00:07:19,680 --> 00:07:24,360
And the sources for the timeline today come from the National Center for Missing and Exploited

118
00:07:24,360 --> 00:07:31,720
Children, People.com, the family's Facebook page for Elyssa, and the City of Clarkston

119
00:07:31,720 --> 00:07:34,400
government website.

120
00:07:34,400 --> 00:07:38,040
So that is the case of Elyssa Vasquez.

121
00:07:38,040 --> 00:07:40,520
This one was difficult to listen to.

122
00:07:40,520 --> 00:07:48,520
I think cold cases and missing person cases involving children are always, at least for

123
00:07:48,520 --> 00:07:57,520
me, more difficult to engage with just because of, I mean, they're kids, you know, and I

124
00:07:57,520 --> 00:08:02,640
just, I have so many questions, you know.

125
00:08:02,640 --> 00:08:14,320
My initial thought when I was hearing about you describe her personality, especially the,

126
00:08:14,320 --> 00:08:23,240
she was a ham, it reminded me of, well, our nieces and nephews, you know, and I don't

127
00:08:23,240 --> 00:08:34,640
know, her spirit, it sounds so bright and very quickly it felt like it was just extinguished

128
00:08:34,640 --> 00:08:37,040
with what happened.

129
00:08:37,040 --> 00:08:43,720
Not that we know what happened, but extinguished in that she, you know, she seemed to disappear

130
00:08:43,720 --> 00:08:45,640
into thin air, I think is what you said.

131
00:08:45,640 --> 00:08:58,040
So yeah, I, my heart also really goes out to her mother and probably, and her dad.

132
00:08:58,040 --> 00:09:02,280
My heart really goes out to her parents.

133
00:09:02,280 --> 00:09:07,720
I'm sure that they have a lot of feelings about that day.

134
00:09:07,720 --> 00:09:21,120
Yeah, I'm interested in knowing if there were cameras on the bus and just more, if there

135
00:09:21,120 --> 00:09:26,400
were any specifics of the accounts of her, you know, getting out and off the bus, both

136
00:09:26,400 --> 00:09:30,440
to and from school and where she had called from.

137
00:09:30,440 --> 00:09:37,280
Yeah, I just, I have kind of a list of questions, so if you want to, we can just get into it.

138
00:09:37,280 --> 00:09:40,960
Yeah, her case was really shocking to me.

139
00:09:40,960 --> 00:09:45,460
That was kind of the first reaction I had where I was kind of just shocked by the lack

140
00:09:45,460 --> 00:09:49,720
of information for this very young girl who went missing.

141
00:09:49,720 --> 00:09:54,600
What doesn't feel like too long ago, 2003, I know it's been over 20 years now, but to

142
00:09:54,600 --> 00:09:57,440
me that still feels very recent.

143
00:09:57,440 --> 00:10:01,780
But one of the first questions I had, kind of the same as you, was did that bus have

144
00:10:01,780 --> 00:10:02,780
cameras?

145
00:10:02,780 --> 00:10:09,680
So, in 2003, I'm trying to think back, like, it feels like my school buses kind of had

146
00:10:09,680 --> 00:10:12,840
like some camera system in them.

147
00:10:12,840 --> 00:10:17,320
So I don't think it is out of the question to think that there would have been cameras

148
00:10:17,320 --> 00:10:19,280
on that bus.

149
00:10:19,280 --> 00:10:25,080
And then that kind of just brings me back to the first question of what was actually

150
00:10:25,080 --> 00:10:26,740
done in this investigation?

151
00:10:26,740 --> 00:10:32,480
What did police do for her and for her family to try to help bring her home?

152
00:10:32,480 --> 00:10:41,880
I mean, there was a severe lapse in judgment in the decision to make her a runaway.

153
00:10:41,880 --> 00:10:44,440
Make it like that.

154
00:10:44,440 --> 00:10:51,800
Yeah, when you said that, I was just like, God damn it.

155
00:10:51,800 --> 00:10:57,240
She was so excited to be going.

156
00:10:57,240 --> 00:11:03,280
Years before, she had spoken to her mother about how she was excited to be there.

157
00:11:03,280 --> 00:11:04,640
You know?

158
00:11:04,640 --> 00:11:12,280
Like it just doesn't, that decision doesn't make any sense to me.

159
00:11:12,280 --> 00:11:20,760
I feel like from there, choosing to label it as that, didn't, you know, light a fire

160
00:11:20,760 --> 00:11:25,200
under their asses to look for her.

161
00:11:25,200 --> 00:11:27,840
Unless I'm mistaken.

162
00:11:27,840 --> 00:11:28,840
That's the thing.

163
00:11:28,840 --> 00:11:30,240
I don't really know if you are.

164
00:11:30,240 --> 00:11:37,600
I could find no newspaper articles, no local news covering her case at all.

165
00:11:37,600 --> 00:11:39,200
And that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

166
00:11:39,200 --> 00:11:41,600
Maybe it's just not available on the internet.

167
00:11:41,600 --> 00:11:46,840
Maybe it's, you know, in a physical archive as opposed to a digital archive.

168
00:11:46,840 --> 00:11:57,840
But I would be very curious to know what got the police to a runaway because I think technically

169
00:11:57,840 --> 00:12:02,680
speaking to label a child as a runaway, that there has to be some indication that they

170
00:12:02,680 --> 00:12:04,920
left on their own accord.

171
00:12:04,920 --> 00:12:10,880
So I think that's kind of a loose definition of runaway jurisdiction, state to state, jurisdiction

172
00:12:10,880 --> 00:12:13,300
to jurisdiction.

173
00:12:13,300 --> 00:12:19,740
But as we've seen on this podcast, sometimes that information isn't there and children

174
00:12:19,740 --> 00:12:23,440
are still labeled as a runaway, even though there is no indication that they left on their

175
00:12:23,440 --> 00:12:25,440
own accord or wanted to leave or anything.

176
00:12:25,440 --> 00:12:30,920
And that feels like what happened here is that there really was nothing that we know

177
00:12:30,920 --> 00:12:37,440
of or that her mother seems to know of that would indicate that Elyssa was planning to

178
00:12:37,440 --> 00:12:40,400
run away, planning to not come home.

179
00:12:40,400 --> 00:12:41,580
Like you said, she called her mom.

180
00:12:41,580 --> 00:12:45,320
She was excited about the new school that she had just started that day.

181
00:12:45,320 --> 00:12:50,240
And she was excited to come home and like do her hair to show up to school the next

182
00:12:50,240 --> 00:12:51,240
day.

183
00:12:51,240 --> 00:12:57,180
You know, like that seems to have been her intention for that day.

184
00:12:57,180 --> 00:13:02,080
I also just wonder about her getting on the bus to begin with.

185
00:13:02,080 --> 00:13:07,620
That does seem to be like kind of the one witness we have in this case is that a security

186
00:13:07,620 --> 00:13:11,960
guard saw her and other students get on the bus.

187
00:13:11,960 --> 00:13:16,040
But because she was so new, I think that can kind of work in two ways.

188
00:13:16,040 --> 00:13:21,160
One, she's new to the school, so she would very much stand out in someone's mind as,

189
00:13:21,160 --> 00:13:23,120
you know, a new girl waiting for the bus.

190
00:13:23,120 --> 00:13:25,420
Like, oh, yes, that is a new student.

191
00:13:25,420 --> 00:13:27,400
That is remarkable.

192
00:13:27,400 --> 00:13:31,840
Or I think that could work against her where nobody really knows what she looks like.

193
00:13:31,840 --> 00:13:36,480
And if police just gave a description to somebody, it's like, oh, yeah, I saw a girl like that

194
00:13:36,480 --> 00:13:37,760
get on the bus.

195
00:13:37,760 --> 00:13:39,880
But maybe it wasn't Elyssa.

196
00:13:39,880 --> 00:13:41,080
Maybe it was somebody else.

197
00:13:41,080 --> 00:13:44,280
So again, that brings me back to the cameras.

198
00:13:44,280 --> 00:13:48,480
Can we ever confirm that she was on the bus to begin with?

199
00:13:48,480 --> 00:13:52,600
Just lots of questions.

200
00:13:52,600 --> 00:13:56,000
But I have to assume that she did make it to school that day.

201
00:13:56,000 --> 00:14:02,320
I would think that would come up before now if she hadn't.

202
00:14:02,320 --> 00:14:07,880
We do know that she called her mom, and from that phone call, it sounded like she was at

203
00:14:07,880 --> 00:14:08,880
school.

204
00:14:08,880 --> 00:14:13,800
So with everything we know, I think she made it to school that day.

205
00:14:13,800 --> 00:14:17,280
But I don't know if she ever made it on the bus for sure.

206
00:14:17,280 --> 00:14:23,840
There doesn't seem to be anything really strong putting her on the bus besides a witness statement,

207
00:14:23,840 --> 00:14:27,400
which we do know that eyewitnesses can be unreliable.

208
00:14:27,400 --> 00:14:35,240
So again, I'd love to see a security camera from the school or from the public bus.

209
00:14:35,240 --> 00:14:41,720
I have to think it existed, and police were maybe just slow on asking for it, and the

210
00:14:41,720 --> 00:14:43,960
tape got erased.

211
00:14:43,960 --> 00:14:45,080
I don't know that for sure.

212
00:14:45,080 --> 00:14:46,080
That's all speculation.

213
00:14:46,080 --> 00:14:50,800
But you can't help but speculate when there's so little in this case.

214
00:14:50,800 --> 00:14:51,800
Yeah.

215
00:14:51,800 --> 00:15:02,520
There's lots of various rabbit holes you can go down and conclusions you can draw when

216
00:15:02,520 --> 00:15:08,200
your mind is left to its own devices.

217
00:15:08,200 --> 00:15:14,680
And we don't have to get into the specifics of this, but my…

218
00:15:14,680 --> 00:15:20,040
I graduated high school in the early aughts.

219
00:15:20,040 --> 00:15:29,120
My school buses definitely did not have cameras on them.

220
00:15:29,120 --> 00:15:38,440
It wasn't until I moved to a bigger city later than the early 2000s and learned that

221
00:15:38,440 --> 00:15:40,920
city buses had cameras on them.

222
00:15:40,920 --> 00:15:50,760
So I will say that I guess it's possible that there weren't cameras at that time.

223
00:15:50,760 --> 00:15:56,200
I do think that that could be a possibility.

224
00:15:56,200 --> 00:16:02,040
I guess I'm hopeful that because it was the public transit as opposed to the school

225
00:16:02,040 --> 00:16:06,520
buses that they would have the camera system on there.

226
00:16:06,520 --> 00:16:14,800
But again, maybe Atlanta wasn't running the most up-to-date buses on the route.

227
00:16:14,800 --> 00:16:19,800
So maybe some buses did have cameras and maybe this specific route just didn't have it

228
00:16:19,800 --> 00:16:22,440
or this specific bus on that day.

229
00:16:22,440 --> 00:16:25,480
Maybe it does exist and we have no idea.

230
00:16:25,480 --> 00:16:30,160
But it's really frustrating to think that there could have been a lot of evidence there

231
00:16:30,160 --> 00:16:35,960
and a lot of clues as to what happened to Elyssa that maybe we're just lost due to

232
00:16:35,960 --> 00:16:41,480
carelessness or not doing due diligence on the part of the police.

233
00:16:41,480 --> 00:16:49,920
Yeah, the fact that it is a city bus that's timed and follows a specific route, there's

234
00:16:49,920 --> 00:16:57,040
a possibility for a moment in time for a lot of eyes, i.e. a lot of witnesses to be on

235
00:16:57,040 --> 00:17:01,800
her during that time.

236
00:17:01,800 --> 00:17:08,600
The possibility of getting interviews or witness statements from possible passengers, you know,

237
00:17:08,600 --> 00:17:12,360
like maybe that work was done and we just don't know.

238
00:17:12,360 --> 00:17:19,480
But again, like I'd love to just know, I'd love to see any sort of movement in this case.

239
00:17:19,480 --> 00:17:26,000
I think bringing it up here today, even though in the beginning, you know, it felt like we

240
00:17:26,000 --> 00:17:29,360
had a lack of information.

241
00:17:29,360 --> 00:17:37,720
And us having this conversation will hopefully spark more conversations about her and get

242
00:17:37,720 --> 00:17:40,320
this family some answers.

243
00:17:40,320 --> 00:17:41,880
Absolutely.

244
00:17:41,880 --> 00:17:46,340
And the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, they did release an age progress

245
00:17:46,340 --> 00:17:49,520
photo last year.

246
00:17:49,520 --> 00:17:54,360
So we'll be putting that on our Instagram so that way folks can see it and see potentially

247
00:17:54,360 --> 00:17:57,520
what she could look like today.

248
00:17:57,520 --> 00:18:00,120
We'll be posting a lot of pictures of Elyssa as well.

249
00:18:00,120 --> 00:18:02,180
Her family has put a lot of pictures out there.

250
00:18:02,180 --> 00:18:06,540
So hopefully somebody recognizes her, it jogs a memory.

251
00:18:06,540 --> 00:18:12,280
You know, maybe some of the kids she met that day at school have stories or have information

252
00:18:12,280 --> 00:18:13,560
that they can bring forward.

253
00:18:13,560 --> 00:18:20,040
Anything, just any piece of information could really help this family and help bring Elyssa

254
00:18:20,040 --> 00:18:21,040
home.

255
00:18:21,040 --> 00:18:22,320
Yeah, 100%.

256
00:18:22,320 --> 00:18:27,920
I mean, those kids, even though they met her that one day, those are a lot of kids that

257
00:18:27,920 --> 00:18:32,800
are in, you know, like their 30s now.

258
00:18:32,800 --> 00:18:40,320
So those people, hopefully a lot of them are around and alive and well and like might remember

259
00:18:40,320 --> 00:18:44,400
something from that day that sticks out to them.

260
00:18:44,400 --> 00:18:49,880
Let's hope that, you know, this sparks some movement in Elyssa’s case.

261
00:18:49,880 --> 00:18:55,960
Again, if you know anything about the disappearance of Elyssa in January of 2003, please call

262
00:18:55,960 --> 00:19:03,200
the DeKalb County Police at 404-294-2519.

263
00:19:03,200 --> 00:19:08,560
And again, we will be putting that age progress photo as well as photos from Elyssa when she

264
00:19:08,560 --> 00:19:11,160
was 12 years old, the time she went missing.

265
00:19:11,160 --> 00:19:16,440
We'll be putting that on our Instagram so that way you can see it, you can share it

266
00:19:16,440 --> 00:19:20,600
in your communities and we just get Elyssa's case out there and get more people talking

267
00:19:20,600 --> 00:19:25,880
about her and more people kind of demanding to know what happened to her.

268
00:19:25,880 --> 00:19:31,160
Just that pressure alone can like open up a case and police can begin investigating again.

269
00:19:31,160 --> 00:19:33,920
So this is the work.

270
00:19:33,920 --> 00:19:35,340
We're all doing it here together.

271
00:19:35,340 --> 00:19:37,360
So thank you for being here.

272
00:19:37,360 --> 00:19:39,600
Thank you for following us on Instagram.

273
00:19:39,600 --> 00:19:42,320
If you're not doing that, join us over there.

274
00:19:42,320 --> 00:19:44,260
We have great conversations in the comments.

275
00:19:44,260 --> 00:19:45,720
Thank you to all who have been commenting.

276
00:19:45,720 --> 00:19:49,840
It's so nice to see familiar faces start to pop up week after week.

277
00:19:49,840 --> 00:19:51,680
Like that's really cool.

278
00:19:51,680 --> 00:19:53,480
We're so happy you're here.

279
00:19:53,480 --> 00:19:56,920
If you could take a minute and just rate and review us on your podcast app.

280
00:19:56,920 --> 00:20:01,360
Again, that's super helpful for people to find this story and this podcast.

281
00:20:01,360 --> 00:20:04,720
So again, that's doing the work that's advocating.

282
00:20:04,720 --> 00:20:09,360
If you or someone you love is hard of hearing, you can find transcripts to all of our podcasts

283
00:20:09,360 --> 00:20:11,880
at coldandmissing.com.

284
00:20:11,880 --> 00:20:15,960
You'll find a backlog of all our other episodes and there's transcripts for all of them.

285
00:20:15,960 --> 00:20:18,680
So head over there.

286
00:20:18,680 --> 00:20:21,880
But that is all I have for this week.

287
00:20:21,880 --> 00:20:24,280
Thank you so much for listening to Cold and Missing.

288
00:20:24,280 --> 00:20:25,840
I'm your host, Allie.

289
00:20:25,840 --> 00:20:27,340
And I'm your co-host, Eli.

290
00:20:27,340 --> 00:20:29,480
Have a good week and stay safe, y'all.

291
00:20:29,480 --> 00:20:46,240
Stay safe, y'all.
