Cold and Missing

In May 1989, 9-year-old Jenna Ray Robbins disappeared from her home in Killeen, Texas. On Mother’s Day, while playing with her friend outside, a man in a gray car lured Jenna away with promises of gifts. Local, state and federal officers helped search for Jenna but searchers could not locate her. Though flyers featuring Jenna's image were distributed across the country, and despite tips pouring in from all over, no solid leads emerged. As years passed, her mother held onto hope that her daughter was still alive, and continued to pray for her safe return. Join Ali and Eli as they get into this missing person case.

00:00:24,560 --> 00:00:27,280
I'm your host, Ali McLaughlin-Sulkowski.

6
00:00:27,280 --> 00:00:29,680
And I'm your co-host, Eli Sulkowski.

7
00:00:29,680 --> 00:00:34,240
And this is Cold and Missing, where we cover cold cases and missing person cases.

8
00:00:34,240 --> 00:00:36,760
Hello everyone and welcome back to Cold and Missing.

9
00:00:36,760 --> 00:00:38,400
I'm your host, Ali.

10
00:00:38,400 --> 00:00:39,400
And I'm Eli.

11
00:00:39,400 --> 00:00:40,400
Welcome back, everyone.

12
00:00:40,400 --> 00:00:43,920
Eli is back after being sick all last week.

13
00:00:43,920 --> 00:00:45,840
I'm so happy he's here.

14
00:00:45,840 --> 00:00:49,400
I'm very happy to be back in the booth.

15
00:00:49,400 --> 00:00:53,400
It's always difficult when you're on mic.

16
00:00:53,400 --> 00:00:56,120
When you're sick, there's just a lot of nasty sounds.

17
00:00:56,120 --> 00:01:01,000
And it was much better for me to spare y'all all of that.

18
00:01:01,000 --> 00:01:04,720
But I'm happy to get into this episode.

19
00:01:04,720 --> 00:01:09,680
Yes, but really quickly, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has rated and

20
00:01:09,680 --> 00:01:11,260
reviewed us recently.

21
00:01:11,260 --> 00:01:14,360
We got some really kind reviews on Apple Podcasts.

22
00:01:14,360 --> 00:01:15,360
So thank you so much.

23
00:01:15,360 --> 00:01:18,980
And, you know, while I have your ear here at the beginning, if you have the time today

24
00:01:18,980 --> 00:01:24,560
to rate us, review us on your favorite podcast platform, it would mean not only the world

25
00:01:24,560 --> 00:01:30,440
to us, but it really helps get these cases into other ears, other people listening.

26
00:01:30,440 --> 00:01:34,440
Well, we are on episode 109 this week.

27
00:01:34,440 --> 00:01:36,920
So should we get into it?

28
00:01:36,920 --> 00:01:37,920
Let's do it.

29
00:01:37,920 --> 00:01:44,280
So just as a bit of a content warning at the top, this case does involve a young person.

30
00:01:44,280 --> 00:01:49,500
Today we are talking about the missing person case of Jenna Ray Robbins.

31
00:01:49,500 --> 00:01:54,520
And this takes place in May of 1989 in Killeen, Texas.

32
00:01:54,520 --> 00:01:57,440
But first a little bit about Jenna.

33
00:01:57,440 --> 00:02:00,120
Jenna is nine years old in 1989.

34
00:02:00,120 --> 00:02:05,360
She was born January 24th, 1980, and she would be 44 years old today.

35
00:02:05,360 --> 00:02:07,520
Her mother is Dong Robbins.

36
00:02:07,520 --> 00:02:09,480
She's originally from Korea.

37
00:02:09,480 --> 00:02:12,480
Jenna is half Korean and half white.

38
00:02:12,480 --> 00:02:17,280
Jenna lived in Killeen, a city with a population of about 70,000.

39
00:02:17,280 --> 00:02:22,280
It sits close to Fort Cavasso's army base, which was formerly Fort Hood.

40
00:02:22,280 --> 00:02:27,000
Jenna, her older brother and mother, live in an older part of the city.

41
00:02:27,000 --> 00:02:29,040
Jenna's parents were divorced.

42
00:02:29,040 --> 00:02:33,800
I couldn't find as many facts about Jenna as I usually like to bring to the podcast,

43
00:02:33,800 --> 00:02:38,160
but what I do know is that she is deeply loved by her family.

44
00:02:38,160 --> 00:02:41,500
She seemed to be a bright spirit in all of their lives.

45
00:02:41,500 --> 00:02:44,860
She was smart and made friends easily.

46
00:02:44,860 --> 00:02:47,760
And now a timeline of events.

47
00:02:47,760 --> 00:02:51,240
Sunday, May 14th, 1989.

48
00:02:51,240 --> 00:02:53,080
It was Mother's Day.

49
00:02:53,080 --> 00:02:57,120
Jenna's mother and brother were running to the store, and they asked Jenna if she wanted

50
00:02:57,120 --> 00:02:58,120
to come along.

51
00:02:58,120 --> 00:03:01,320
They needed to pick up a few more things for dinner.

52
00:03:01,320 --> 00:03:05,640
Jenna wanted to stay behind and continue to play with her friend, Kimberly.

53
00:03:05,640 --> 00:03:07,120
This was no problem.

54
00:03:07,120 --> 00:03:10,320
Jenna's grandmother was still home to look after her.

55
00:03:10,320 --> 00:03:14,420
Jenna's mother and brother left around 5.30 p.m.

56
00:03:14,420 --> 00:03:19,960
Jenna was playing outside her home on the 1200 block of North 4th Street with her friend

57
00:03:19,960 --> 00:03:23,720
Kimberly who was six years old at this time.

58
00:03:23,720 --> 00:03:29,440
Shortly after her mother and brother left, a man driving a light gray two-door Dodge

59
00:03:29,440 --> 00:03:33,360
or Plymouth car stopped to watch the girls play.

60
00:03:33,360 --> 00:03:35,960
The car looked new for 1989.

61
00:03:35,960 --> 00:03:39,100
He motioned for the girls to come over to the car.

62
00:03:39,100 --> 00:03:44,180
The man driving was white, between the ages of 20 and 22 years old, with short brown hair

63
00:03:44,180 --> 00:03:46,320
that had been slicked back.

64
00:03:46,320 --> 00:03:48,840
He didn't have any facial hair.

65
00:03:48,840 --> 00:03:52,680
The man driving the car persuades Jenna to get in the car with him.

66
00:03:52,680 --> 00:03:55,600
He offers to buy her gifts.

67
00:03:55,600 --> 00:04:00,360
He also tried to lure the six-year-old in the car as well with the same promise of buying

68
00:04:00,360 --> 00:04:01,600
her a gift.

69
00:04:01,600 --> 00:04:05,320
But Kimberly gets scared and runs off.

70
00:04:05,320 --> 00:04:09,800
Once Jenna was in the car and it was clear Kimberly was not going to get in, the vehicle

71
00:04:09,800 --> 00:04:14,960
backed up on Garrison Avenue and headed westbound on Garrison.

72
00:04:14,960 --> 00:04:18,800
When Jenna's mother arrives back home and can't locate Jenna, she calls a friend and

73
00:04:18,800 --> 00:04:22,320
they begin looking through the neighborhood for her, thinking she was still playing with

74
00:04:22,320 --> 00:04:24,160
friends.

75
00:04:24,160 --> 00:04:28,760
As the minutes tick by, they decide to call the police and report her missing.

76
00:04:28,760 --> 00:04:32,360
Police do appear to respond quickly and they begin to look through the neighborhood for

77
00:04:32,360 --> 00:04:33,760
her.

78
00:04:33,760 --> 00:04:38,280
As the night falls, police are out until 4 a.m. trying to locate Jenna.

79
00:04:38,280 --> 00:04:44,480
Now, Jenna's case did not get national attention despite it being a young girl who was abducted

80
00:04:44,480 --> 00:04:46,760
while playing in her neighborhood.

81
00:04:46,760 --> 00:04:51,280
It's unclear how quickly police are able to talk to her friend Kimberly and realize

82
00:04:51,280 --> 00:04:54,000
that they had an abduction on their hands.

83
00:04:54,000 --> 00:05:00,160
Amber alerts weren't a thing in 1989, but it does appear that the news spreads locally.

84
00:05:00,160 --> 00:05:05,440
As news about Jenna's abduction begins to creep into the community, an 11-year-old girl

85
00:05:05,440 --> 00:05:11,440
comes forward and says that just days before Jenna was abducted, possibly a week before,

86
00:05:11,440 --> 00:05:16,720
this 11-year-old girl was approached by a man in a two-door gray car who tried to get

87
00:05:16,720 --> 00:05:18,640
her to get inside.

88
00:05:18,640 --> 00:05:23,120
The description of Jenna's abductor had not been released to the public yet, but the young

89
00:05:23,120 --> 00:05:29,000
girl gives a description of the person who tried to abduct her and they are nearly identical.

90
00:05:29,000 --> 00:05:31,160
Two composite sketches were drawn.

91
00:05:31,160 --> 00:05:37,200
One of the man the 11-year-old saw and one of the man 6-year-old Kimberly saw take Jenna.

92
00:05:37,200 --> 00:05:39,560
They are strikingly similar.

93
00:05:39,560 --> 00:05:44,120
In the days that follow, both the FBI and the Texas Rangers get involved in Jenna's

94
00:05:44,120 --> 00:05:47,640
search, but they don't have any clues to go on.

95
00:05:47,640 --> 00:05:52,280
Any possible sighting of Jenna is quickly ruled out as another child.

96
00:05:52,280 --> 00:05:57,160
In November of 1989, Jenna has been missing for six months now.

97
00:05:57,160 --> 00:06:01,640
In Minnesota, a young boy named Jacob Wetterling goes missing.

98
00:06:01,640 --> 00:06:05,160
Jacob's case is pretty well known throughout the true crime community.

99
00:06:05,160 --> 00:06:09,920
Jacob, his brother, and a friend rode their bikes to a nearby video store and when they

100
00:06:09,920 --> 00:06:16,360
were returning home, a man with a gun told them to lay in a ditch and picked Jacob to

101
00:06:16,360 --> 00:06:20,500
abduct and told the two others to run and not look back where he would shoot.

102
00:06:20,500 --> 00:06:26,040
It takes years for this case to get solved, but it has been solved as of 2016.

103
00:06:26,040 --> 00:06:31,860
Jacob's case catches national attention and when flyers are mailed out, organizers also

104
00:06:31,860 --> 00:06:36,640
put in information about Jenna, hoping to get leads in her case too.

105
00:06:36,640 --> 00:06:40,360
The flyers are sent to thousands of businesses and schools.

106
00:06:40,360 --> 00:06:45,440
A lead organizer, David Collins, who ran a foundation for missing children after his

107
00:06:45,440 --> 00:06:51,120
own son vanished, said, quote, we asked the Wetterlings if we could put Jenna on the poster

108
00:06:51,120 --> 00:06:54,920
because she hadn't had any exposure, end quote.

109
00:06:54,920 --> 00:06:59,900
David expresses concern about Jenna's case getting so little attention, quote, early

110
00:06:59,900 --> 00:07:02,120
on they wouldn't do anything.

111
00:07:02,120 --> 00:07:07,040
We called to offer help and one officer didn't even know that there had been a kidnapping.

112
00:07:07,040 --> 00:07:10,640
He didn't know what we were talking about, end quote.

113
00:07:10,640 --> 00:07:15,860
Jenna and Jacob's picture appear together all over Minnesota, but Jenna's case never

114
00:07:15,860 --> 00:07:18,600
grabs that national spotlight.

115
00:07:18,600 --> 00:07:23,360
Her picture is featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show at one point, but her name does not become

116
00:07:23,360 --> 00:07:26,080
a household name like other cases.

117
00:07:26,080 --> 00:07:31,040
In February of 1990, so it's been nine months since Jenna vanished, and her pictures have

118
00:07:31,040 --> 00:07:36,020
been plastered all over Minnesota, despite her having never been to the state or have

119
00:07:36,020 --> 00:07:37,360
any ties there.

120
00:07:37,360 --> 00:07:42,680
Her mother, Dong Robbins, is grateful and often thinks about Jacob when she offers up

121
00:07:42,680 --> 00:07:45,260
a prayer for her daughter's safe return.

122
00:07:45,260 --> 00:07:48,800
She says, quote, I miss my daughter so much.

123
00:07:48,800 --> 00:07:51,280
My daughter left nine months ago.

124
00:07:51,280 --> 00:07:57,280
Every day I chant and ask that the guy please will change his mind, end quote.

125
00:07:57,280 --> 00:08:03,760
In Killeen, Sergeant Steve Parker is the third officer to handle Jenna's case in nine months.

126
00:08:03,760 --> 00:08:08,420
He does say that they get tips from all over the country due to the flyers, quote, she

127
00:08:08,420 --> 00:08:14,400
has been cited in four, five different places all over the country, all at the same time.

128
00:08:14,400 --> 00:08:18,980
Sometimes we get a good one with a license number or a name or something, but many tips

129
00:08:18,980 --> 00:08:20,920
we can't do anything about.

130
00:08:20,920 --> 00:08:26,880
I was at a truck stop a few hours ago and saw somebody who looked like her, end quote.

131
00:08:26,880 --> 00:08:30,760
Police are skeptical about these sightings, quote, if you look at her picture in that

132
00:08:30,760 --> 00:08:36,240
flyer you could walk into any elementary school up there in Minnesota and see someone similar,

133
00:08:36,240 --> 00:08:37,480
end quote.

134
00:08:37,480 --> 00:08:42,840
In 1998, it's been nine years since Jenna was abducted, and she would have been 18 years

135
00:08:42,840 --> 00:08:44,040
old.

136
00:08:44,040 --> 00:08:47,040
Her mother wonders what her daughter could be doing.

137
00:08:47,040 --> 00:08:52,480
She says, quote, she would probably be finishing school, in college, and in love with some

138
00:08:52,480 --> 00:08:53,640
boy.

139
00:08:53,640 --> 00:08:55,120
I do a lot of crying.

140
00:08:55,120 --> 00:08:57,240
I have a lot of pain.

141
00:08:57,240 --> 00:08:59,720
I still love my daughter very hard.

142
00:08:59,720 --> 00:09:01,320
I want her to come home.

143
00:09:01,320 --> 00:09:03,520
I miss her so much.

144
00:09:03,520 --> 00:09:07,740
The guy who took my daughter has to understand that he has hurt somebody.

145
00:09:07,740 --> 00:09:11,480
We are human beings and it hurts when you lose somebody like this.

146
00:09:11,480 --> 00:09:14,320
It's not right, end quote.

147
00:09:14,320 --> 00:09:19,720
Her mother still hopes that she is alive out there, quote, I have faith that she is and

148
00:09:19,720 --> 00:09:21,400
I want her to come home.

149
00:09:21,400 --> 00:09:27,440
I have to find her no matter what condition she is in, end quote.

150
00:09:27,440 --> 00:09:36,400
But that is truly the last thing that we know about the abduction of Jenna Ray Robbins.

151
00:09:36,400 --> 00:09:42,160
Her case does come up periodically in the media, but no new information has been given

152
00:09:42,160 --> 00:09:47,760
and no new leads, no new searches, nothing has been done in Jenna's case as far as I

153
00:09:47,760 --> 00:09:49,720
can tell.

154
00:09:49,720 --> 00:09:55,880
So if you know anything about the disappearance of Jenna Ray Robbins or her whereabouts today,

155
00:09:55,880 --> 00:10:03,360
please call the Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477.

156
00:10:03,360 --> 00:10:07,680
So that is the case of Jenna Ray Robbins.

157
00:10:07,680 --> 00:10:14,840
One of the first things I wrote down after listening to you speak about Jenna was this

158
00:10:14,840 --> 00:10:18,600
is exactly why we do this podcast.

159
00:10:18,600 --> 00:10:25,800
When you said that you couldn't find a lot of information about her, you know, this is

160
00:10:25,800 --> 00:10:29,800
one of the exact reasons why we're reporting on it.

161
00:10:29,800 --> 00:10:36,720
You know, you specifically search for cases that are less known for a reason and I'm very

162
00:10:36,720 --> 00:10:42,360
glad to know her name and know her story.

163
00:10:42,360 --> 00:10:45,900
Her mother, you know, it's a case that should be known.

164
00:10:45,900 --> 00:10:49,880
So I'm very glad that it was brought to cold and missing.

165
00:10:49,880 --> 00:10:57,720
Yeah, it was really sad to learn that this abduction had happened and it didn't really

166
00:10:57,720 --> 00:11:02,680
hit the national news at all.

167
00:11:02,680 --> 00:11:07,560
Obviously I'll see, you know, if something really hits the national news, like, you know,

168
00:11:07,560 --> 00:11:08,560
this happened in Texas.

169
00:11:08,560 --> 00:11:14,600
I'll see newspapers in Chicago and then in California, like also covering the case, at

170
00:11:14,600 --> 00:11:17,600
least like the Associated Press story will be run.

171
00:11:17,600 --> 00:11:24,080
But in this case, I could really only find news articles local to Texas and then Minnesota.

172
00:11:24,080 --> 00:11:27,280
That was really all I could find covering it.

173
00:11:27,280 --> 00:11:36,320
Well, moving right into Jenna's abduction, I was very curious at least to know what you

174
00:11:36,320 --> 00:11:37,320
thought.

175
00:11:37,320 --> 00:11:43,000
Do you think that there was a possibility that she knew this perpetrator?

176
00:11:43,000 --> 00:11:44,880
It could be a possibility for sure.

177
00:11:44,880 --> 00:11:47,360
I don't think anything really has been ruled out.

178
00:11:47,360 --> 00:11:51,320
The one thing I do know that has been ruled out is that her father is not a suspect in

179
00:11:51,320 --> 00:11:52,400
this case.

180
00:11:52,400 --> 00:11:56,520
So he's about the only person that they've ruled out.

181
00:11:56,520 --> 00:12:02,240
But for me, one thing that I kind of come back to again and again in the story is with

182
00:12:02,240 --> 00:12:08,040
it being so close to that military base, I can't help but think that this was somebody

183
00:12:08,040 --> 00:12:09,440
living on the military base.

184
00:12:09,440 --> 00:12:14,080
And again, this is pure speculation on my part, but a lot of things to me kind of lend

185
00:12:14,080 --> 00:12:15,080
my thoughts to that.

186
00:12:15,080 --> 00:12:17,160
It would be the first place I would try to look.

187
00:12:17,160 --> 00:12:19,040
Yeah, I agree with you.

188
00:12:19,040 --> 00:12:25,880
I think having an army base, military base there, it is a designated concentrated group

189
00:12:25,880 --> 00:12:31,040
of people that are living amongst civilians.

190
00:12:31,040 --> 00:12:33,520
I think I'm speaking about that correctly.

191
00:12:33,520 --> 00:12:41,780
But yeah, it's not an anomaly type of like residence area, but it's different.

192
00:12:41,780 --> 00:12:48,360
So I do think that that would be a place to look for sure.

193
00:12:48,360 --> 00:12:52,440
Yeah, and a couple of things kind of pull me that direction.

194
00:12:52,440 --> 00:12:58,000
For one, the age is right in line with somebody who would have just joined the military 20

195
00:12:58,000 --> 00:13:00,000
to 22 years old.

196
00:13:00,000 --> 00:13:05,360
The fact that he didn't have any facial hair, you're not allowed to have facial hair.

197
00:13:05,360 --> 00:13:07,760
Well, I think you can have a mustache, but it's very limited.

198
00:13:07,760 --> 00:13:12,120
So he didn't have any, which also kind of leans that way.

199
00:13:12,120 --> 00:13:17,840
He had the shorter hair that was kind of slick back, like really has that kind of clean cut

200
00:13:17,840 --> 00:13:19,200
look.

201
00:13:19,200 --> 00:13:25,720
And then the other piece of it too was the car that he was driving is a newer car.

202
00:13:25,720 --> 00:13:28,760
And this is something that I kind of saw true.

203
00:13:28,760 --> 00:13:34,240
My brother was in the military, so I saw a lot of his friends kind of do a similar thing

204
00:13:34,240 --> 00:13:38,240
where when they sign up, you get like a signing bonus and you buy a new car.

205
00:13:38,240 --> 00:13:42,280
Like I saw so many young military guys do that right away.

206
00:13:42,280 --> 00:13:47,960
So the fact that this is also a new car kind of leads me to think that, well, that would

207
00:13:47,960 --> 00:13:50,320
be the first place I would start looking.

208
00:13:50,320 --> 00:13:54,240
I would want to eliminate that as a possibility first.

209
00:13:54,240 --> 00:14:04,880
You're so brilliant to me because your mind can go so far investigative wise.

210
00:14:04,880 --> 00:14:09,640
The only thing that I wrote down was he's a confident perp.

211
00:14:09,640 --> 00:14:17,760
And I think that you can align that with a young man who has just joined the military

212
00:14:17,760 --> 00:14:26,560
who, you know, if he is committing crimes like this, I would say there's a probability

213
00:14:26,560 --> 00:14:28,440
he's not in his right mind.

214
00:14:28,440 --> 00:14:35,840
And there's a possibility that he's a very, you know, like vicious person who is confident

215
00:14:35,840 --> 00:14:38,400
in what he's doing.

216
00:14:38,400 --> 00:14:44,760
And that's not to say that service people are like military service people are vicious

217
00:14:44,760 --> 00:14:48,040
or mean or have any sort of mindset.

218
00:14:48,040 --> 00:14:51,640
What I'm trying to say is I've, you know, I've met a fair amount of people in the military,

219
00:14:51,640 --> 00:14:57,400
some family members, some not friends, and a lot of them are very confident just in themselves,

220
00:14:57,400 --> 00:15:02,520
in their spirit and you know what they're there to what they're in the military to do.

221
00:15:02,520 --> 00:15:07,000
So that's more of what I'm saying is someone who definitely believes that they can get

222
00:15:07,000 --> 00:15:08,800
away with it.

223
00:15:08,800 --> 00:15:16,840
And another detail that also kind of led me to this mindset was the other girl, the 11

224
00:15:16,840 --> 00:15:23,480
year old girl who said that she somebody had approached her trying to abduct her.

225
00:15:23,480 --> 00:15:27,880
The reports don't give me the definite timeline, but kind of again and again, it says that

226
00:15:27,880 --> 00:15:30,880
it happened like a week before Jenna.

227
00:15:30,880 --> 00:15:35,280
And so it's if you know, Sunday is the day off that this guy has, he's going to have

228
00:15:35,280 --> 00:15:37,020
that Sunday every single time.

229
00:15:37,020 --> 00:15:40,320
So if it didn't work one week, he went back and tried again the next week.

230
00:15:40,320 --> 00:15:45,160
So that's just another thing that kind of led me to that direction.

231
00:15:45,160 --> 00:15:51,720
Again all speculation, maybe investigators did look into that angle and eliminated it,

232
00:15:51,720 --> 00:15:53,060
but we don't know that.

233
00:15:53,060 --> 00:15:56,120
So that's where I would start at least.

234
00:15:56,120 --> 00:15:57,120
Again I agree with you.

235
00:15:57,120 --> 00:16:02,980
I think that the statistics are there in that people who commit these types of crimes like

236
00:16:02,980 --> 00:16:08,400
to be familiar with the area that they are committing those crimes in.

237
00:16:08,400 --> 00:16:13,640
And I mean you see it everywhere, especially I mean this is maybe a bit more in line with

238
00:16:13,640 --> 00:16:21,920
serial killers, but you know, people who commit sex crimes or sexual assault crimes, they

239
00:16:21,920 --> 00:16:30,340
also like to be in the same area because they like to know the I mean they want to get away

240
00:16:30,340 --> 00:16:31,340
with it.

241
00:16:31,340 --> 00:16:32,600
So they want to know the lay of the land.

242
00:16:32,600 --> 00:16:42,560
So again yeah I think if there is a possibility for him to repeat in that same area, he will.

243
00:16:42,560 --> 00:16:44,080
Especially if he's getting away with it.

244
00:16:44,080 --> 00:16:50,440
Yeah and it's just so bold to like try it kind of two weeks in a row.

245
00:16:50,440 --> 00:16:54,200
The first time it didn't work and it seems like he just became that much more obsessed

246
00:16:54,200 --> 00:16:57,280
with the idea.

247
00:16:57,280 --> 00:17:03,280
This is kind of pivoting away from the crime itself, but I am curious to know the size

248
00:17:03,280 --> 00:17:10,880
of the police force because I don't understand the way the case was being passed around amongst

249
00:17:10,880 --> 00:17:12,880
the force.

250
00:17:12,880 --> 00:17:15,940
How did someone not know?

251
00:17:15,940 --> 00:17:20,440
Like even just like oh yeah I've never worked on it but of course I know that name.

252
00:17:20,440 --> 00:17:21,720
That seems shocking to me.

253
00:17:21,720 --> 00:17:30,480
So it seems like whether it's small or large it doesn't make sense that officers wouldn't

254
00:17:30,480 --> 00:17:31,480
know.

255
00:17:31,480 --> 00:17:35,800
Again I've never worked on a police force but I'm curious to know more about that from

256
00:17:35,800 --> 00:17:36,800
you.

257
00:17:36,800 --> 00:17:42,680
Yeah that part felt bonkers to me that someone could call and like offer help and support.

258
00:17:42,680 --> 00:17:44,840
You know this is what this guy does.

259
00:17:44,840 --> 00:17:51,640
He travels around the country kind of assisting in missing person cases and helping the family.

260
00:17:51,640 --> 00:17:59,000
That he could call and the officer not have any idea that there had been a kidnapping.

261
00:17:59,000 --> 00:18:02,560
That just blows my mind.

262
00:18:02,560 --> 00:18:07,800
But it kind of reinforces that that's how little Jenna's case was like really being

263
00:18:07,800 --> 00:18:09,040
covered.

264
00:18:09,040 --> 00:18:13,940
Even in the local media it seems like the coverage was very limited if somebody in their

265
00:18:13,940 --> 00:18:15,480
own police force didn't know.

266
00:18:15,480 --> 00:18:21,800
Unless he was brand new from vacation had been out of town for weeks and was just walking

267
00:18:21,800 --> 00:18:24,640
in and that was the first phone call he got that day.

268
00:18:24,640 --> 00:18:29,160
Maybe but still you think he'd walk in and somebody say like oh my gosh while you were

269
00:18:29,160 --> 00:18:31,600
gone like a girl was kidnapped.

270
00:18:31,600 --> 00:18:34,720
You think it would be talked about you know just around the office even if you're not

271
00:18:34,720 --> 00:18:35,760
directly working on it.

272
00:18:35,760 --> 00:18:41,180
So we do know the FBI and the Texas Rangers do get involved so other police agencies do

273
00:18:41,180 --> 00:18:45,600
help but I don't know what happened here truly.

274
00:18:45,600 --> 00:18:55,040
Yet the last thing I wrote down was you don't get to be skeptical about tips.

275
00:18:55,040 --> 00:19:01,240
This is this is the time in you know cases like these where you it's gum shoe detective

276
00:19:01,240 --> 00:19:07,400
work where you exhaust every resource every tip.

277
00:19:07,400 --> 00:19:12,260
And it definitely it seems to be that way in other cases.

278
00:19:12,260 --> 00:19:16,960
So again you know just to echo you I don't understand what happened here like how everything

279
00:19:16,960 --> 00:19:18,040
wasn't exhausted.

280
00:19:18,040 --> 00:19:26,420
Like there's no room to be skeptical of tips in a case where a child was kidnapped.

281
00:19:26,420 --> 00:19:30,760
Again I know this is my you know my emotions are involved in this because it's the first

282
00:19:30,760 --> 00:19:35,600
time I'm hearing it but it just it doesn't make sense to me.

283
00:19:35,600 --> 00:19:40,160
The ball was really dropped here at least from my perspective and I am glad to know

284
00:19:40,160 --> 00:19:49,920
that the FBI was involved later but I I do think it's important to you know hold police

285
00:19:49,920 --> 00:19:57,740
forces accountable for when there are errors like this or at least to talk about it with

286
00:19:57,740 --> 00:20:00,040
an open mind.

287
00:20:00,040 --> 00:20:07,400
Yeah I think that's should be a critical part of police work is to look at what you're doing

288
00:20:07,400 --> 00:20:11,800
how you're doing it and are there ways you can improve because I yeah you're exactly

289
00:20:11,800 --> 00:20:17,360
right there there's no time to be skeptical or to like brush off leads when you really

290
00:20:17,360 --> 00:20:21,280
don't have any coming in and you don't know what happened to this little girl.

291
00:20:21,280 --> 00:20:25,440
And like yeah some of them would be harder to track down like the example was given like

292
00:20:25,440 --> 00:20:30,240
oh we saw a girl like this in a truck stop but it's like you you need to go and like

293
00:20:30,240 --> 00:20:35,640
contact somebody that day or at least call or like whatever you can do like call the

294
00:20:35,640 --> 00:20:39,920
police in that town ask them to swing by with a picture and see if anybody working there

295
00:20:39,920 --> 00:20:44,520
recognize the girl because that can help but it's not something you can really go back

296
00:20:44,520 --> 00:20:49,520
20 30 years later and do because those people aren't working and they're probably not going

297
00:20:49,520 --> 00:20:51,280
to remember the day.

298
00:20:51,280 --> 00:20:54,560
It seemed like some of the leads they were getting maybe weren't taken as seriously I

299
00:20:54,560 --> 00:20:59,020
hope that's not the case I hope that they did do this follow up work but it really was

300
00:20:59,020 --> 00:21:06,440
just dead ends but yeah it just it feels like every lead has to be run down in any case

301
00:21:06,440 --> 00:21:10,800
but especially when you're not getting a lot you just run them all down.

302
00:21:10,800 --> 00:21:19,280
Well I think with you bringing Jenna's case and name to our podcast today will will create

303
00:21:19,280 --> 00:21:28,720
a little bit of traction around just maybe her name and case even online with our listeners.

304
00:21:28,720 --> 00:21:35,600
I really hope that if you are listening and you are on social media take the time to you

305
00:21:35,600 --> 00:21:40,480
know share the pictures that we will eventually post of Jenna because I think this is a case

306
00:21:40,480 --> 00:21:46,400
that can be solved and absolutely deserves to be solved.

307
00:21:46,400 --> 00:21:50,960
Especially with these composite sketches this is something we're going to have on our Instagram

308
00:21:50,960 --> 00:21:52,840
at Cold and Missing.

309
00:21:52,840 --> 00:21:57,680
The two composite sketches one is from the six year old Kimberly who was there and saw

310
00:21:57,680 --> 00:22:02,500
Jenna get in the car and then the other one is from that 11 year old girl who had the

311
00:22:02,500 --> 00:22:08,240
encounter the week before with very likely the same man same car and when you see these

312
00:22:08,240 --> 00:22:14,440
two composite sketches they almost just look like photocopies of each other there's just

313
00:22:14,440 --> 00:22:20,560
minor differences in like the eyebrows but I think getting that picture out and Jenna's

314
00:22:20,560 --> 00:22:25,800
picture out can bring some answers in this case.

315
00:22:25,800 --> 00:22:33,200
I think that man in the composite sketch is identifiable for sure especially given you

316
00:22:33,200 --> 00:22:37,160
know we know the kind of car he was in so if you recognize that guy and you know he

317
00:22:37,160 --> 00:22:43,760
had a gray car in 1989 that's a tip that's something.

318
00:22:43,760 --> 00:22:49,720
So again if you know anything about the disappearance of Jenna Ray Robbins or her whereabouts today

319
00:22:49,720 --> 00:22:57,520
please call Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477 and like I said we will have

320
00:22:57,520 --> 00:23:02,460
those pictures up on our Instagram at Cold and Missing we'll have Jenna's picture as

321
00:23:02,460 --> 00:23:09,200
well as a age progression picture of her so those in the composite sketch will all be

322
00:23:09,200 --> 00:23:13,680
up on our Instagram and please follow us there if there's any any updates that you need

323
00:23:13,680 --> 00:23:18,720
about the podcast if we're gonna be missing a week or whatever happens we'll always post

324
00:23:18,720 --> 00:23:22,800
it there and we'll pin the post so you'll be able to find it and know what's going on

325
